Gregs China Impressionen
I'm on a trip for Cargolux that has a one week layover in Beijing. After a lot of research, I finally got up the courage to leave my beautiful, luxurious hotel in Beijing and take a train 800 km south to Linzhou, in the Henan province. This place is one of Alex Hofer's favorite flying sites. Take a look at the pictures. The flying is truly incredible!
I'm certain, I'm the only westerner here. Just getting the correct train from Beijing was quite a challenge (and then I managed to miss my stop). Very few people speak english. I don't know what I'm eating half the time (and don't want to know). My bed is I suppose typically Chinese (having more in common with a piece of wood than a mattress). I am so jet-lagged! But none of this matters. The flying can only be described as magical. What fantastic adventures I'm having, making new friends, and experiencing things I never knew before! This is paragliding nirvana in Asia--constant 5 m/s+ thermals, and the mountain range goes on forever!
Next year the PWC association will conduct one of its events here, and I intend to take part in it.
Hoping to fly with you again soon, happy landings!
Greg
